Victoria Member for Morwell Russell Northe today said employment in Latrobe-Gippsland had increased by 6,900 over the year to July according to Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) figures.

"This is fantastic news for Gippsland and can only be improved by recently announced job creating investments by the Coalition Government including the $73 million Latrobe Regional Hospital redevelopment," Mr Northe said.

Mr Northe said there were now 25,900 more people employed in regional Victoria than when Labor left office.

"These figures demonstrate that the Victorian Coalition Government is supporting jobs growth and investment in regional Victoria," Mr Northe said.

Employment in regional Victoria over the year was led by Latrobe-Gippsland with an increase of 6,900 jobs across the region.

"In the three months to July 2014 the unemployment rate in Latrobe-Gippsland was 4.8 per cent compared to the 5.4 per cent it was when Labor left office," Mr Northe said.

"Victoria’s regional unemployment rate was 6.5 percent over the three months to July, the lowest regional unemployment rate of the non-mining states.

"The Victorian Coalition Government is investing in major job creating projects right across regional Victoria.

"Projects including the Latrobe Regional Hospital redevelopment and Gippsland Heavy Industry Park will create more jobs in Latrobe Valley and the wider Gippsland region."

Member for Eastern Victoria Region Danny O’Brien said the Victorian Coalition Government’s $35 million Latrobe Valley Employment Roadmap and $15 million Latrobe Valley Industry & Infrastructure Fund (LVIIF) supported local businesses in their endeavors to grow and expand and create local job opportunities.

"The Latrobe Valley Employment Roadmap has created 366 new jobs across Latrobe City Council, Baw Baw and Wellington Shire since December 2010," Mr O’Brien said

"In addition, over the past three years, the Regional Growth Fund has invested almost $430 million to support 1,500 projects, leveraging $1.7 billion in total investment. "Daniel Andrews and Labor would be disastrous for regional Victorians. Labor hasn’t allocated one cent to the next four years of the Regional Growth Fund, in comparison to the Coalition’s allocation of $500 million for a total investment of $1 billion.
