Boys Home Road Special Charge Scheme

Bass Coast Shire Council has proposed to upgrade Boys Home Road, Newhaven via a Special Charge Scheme.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 30th September 2005 - Back to News

The project has an estimated cost of around $400,000. The scheme will have a significant Council contribution due to the adjoining reserve that is owned by Council.

"The design for the road has already begun," confirmed Assets Director for Bass Coast Shire Council, Guy Wilson- Browne. "However, the commencement of works won’t be until 2006-07, after community consultation has taken place."

All Special Charge Schemes include a landowner approval stage. Commencement of the work is contingent on not receiving objections from more than 50 percent of the affected landowners.

Calculation of charges for the scheme will be based on frontage of the properties, with a number of other factors likely to be considered. These include potential traffic generaion, area of the properties and current land zoning considerations.

The community consultation is scheduled for 2006.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin reinterated the importance of community involvement in the project. "There will be a full opportunity for input on the plan during the consultation period," said the Mayor.

In addition to works on the road and drains, a shared bicycle and pedestrian pathway would link the Phillip Island Tourist Road to Newhaven College.
