Baw Baw Shire residents encouraged to adopt cats or dogs and give loving homes to animals in need
Baw Baw Shire Council urges residents to adopt cats or dogs, giving animals loving homes. Affordable adoption fees include desexing, microchipping, and registration. View available pets and apply online today.
Local animal lovers are encouraged to consider giving a forever home to a furry friend with many adorable animals currently available for adoption. As part of council's ongoing commitment to responsible pet ownership and animal welfare, residents are being asked to open their hearts and homes to one of the many animals currently available. Both cats and dogs are currently available for adoption, however, the pound has recently experienced an influx of cats in need of new homes.
Animal adoption is rewarding, but consider exercise needs, time alone, other pets or children, and ongoing veterinary costs before deciding
Adopt don't shop
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Danny Goss is encouraging anyone considering a new pet to visit the pound and adopt before they shop. "Animal adoption is a rewarding experience that benefits both the animal and its new owner. Unfortunately, some pet owners are not practicing responsible pet ownership causing many unwanted kittens and cats to be surrendered to our pound."
"We continue to work closely with local vets and animal agencies to rehome as many animals as we can, but there are still many cats available for adoption right now. By adopting from our pound, you're not only gaining a new best friend - you're also giving an animal a second chance at life. Whether you're looking for a cuddly lap cat, a curious kitten, or a calm older companion, there's a perfect match for every household, said Cr Goss.
Affordable cat adoptions
Cat adoption fees are kept affordable to encourage more adoptions and ensure all animals are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, health checked and registered with council - ready to become part of a new family.
Cat adoption fees
- Kitten under 6 months - $250
- Cats: 6 months - 10 years - $210
- Senior Cats 10+ years - $110
West Ward Cr Jess Hamilton urged interested community members to view the growing list of animals available for adoption today.
Commit to pet adoption
Cr Hamilton said, "If animal adoption is something you're interested in, you can view a list of available animals on council's website or call us to book an appointment to visit the pound located in Longwarry North. Keep an eye out on our social media channels too where we often post about available animals."
"Adopting a cat is not just about companionship, it's a lifelong commitment. Before considering adopting a cat we encourage you to do your research, understand their needs and the responsibilities associated with cat ownership such as the 24-hour cat curfew," said Cr Hamilton.
Residents interested in adopting an animal are encouraged to read more about the adoption process on council's website and submit an online adoption questionnaire. To view available cats and learn more about the adoption process, please visit Baw Baw Shire - Animals website.
