Graffiti Trailer Will Make Its Mark On The Community

Latrobe City Council has taken delivery of a new graffiti trailer thanks to a state government grant and the whole community will benefit.

By Latrobe City - 7th November 2013 - Back to News

Latrobe City Council mayor, Councillor Sandy Kam, said that community groups would be able to access the trailer for their use.

"The trailer is fitted with a tank and a motor and we can now purchase the chemicals and personal protective equipment to ensure the trailer is fully kitted out. Some members of Council staff are already trained to use graffiti removal kits but we can now provide more training to ensure there are a number of officers available to assist should the need arise. We can also provide training to community groups to ensure they are able to safely use the equipment when tackling their own cleaning jobs.

"The application for the trailer was a team effort too, with assistance from many local community and not for profit groups involved in our major towns across the municipality. Sadly, there are many buildings and assets that are vandalised with graffiti but many hands make light work and this trailer will certainly ease the burden in of cleaning large surfaces, both in terms of time and cost," Cr Kam said.

"As well as receiving a grant for the graffiti trailer we also managed to get four portable graffiti removal kits. These are smaller wheelie bins which contain all the equipment required to remove graffiti. They are more manageable and can also be loaned out to community groups for use in smaller areas.

"Having these kits and the trailer available for trained members of the community will free up valuable time for our Depot staff so they can concentrate on their substantive work around Latrobe City. We all value an attractive, tidy and clean landscape and we now have more options to tackle the graffiti as soon as possible," Cr Kam concluded.

If you witness an act of vandalism you should report the matter to the police. For help with cleaning up Council assets that have been vandalised, contact Latrobe City Council on 1300 367 700.
