Shetland Heights Road in San Remo officially opens to better support recent growth and development
Bass Coast Council announces the completion of Shetland Heights Road in San Remo, with improved safety measures and joint funding from government programs.
Bass Coast Shire Council are pleased to announce the completion of the Shetland Heights Road in San Remo. The road is now officially open. This project was important in ensuring Bass Coast's urban road network is safe and sustainable and the upgrade responds to recent growth and development, including the recently established Bass Coast College.
The major project on Shetland Heights Road in San Remo involved detailed design, service relocations, new pavements, a concrete footpath, and speed measures
Road upgrade completed
For the completion of this major project, detailed design and service relocations investigations were undertaken with works including installing new pavements, sealing the road, installing kerb and channels and associated underground drainage at selected locations and the installation of a concrete footpath.
A lower speed limit of 50km/h and speed humps at selected locations along the road were incorporated into the design to lower speeds at the crest and improve safety along the road. This project was made possible thanks to $1.99 million in joint funding from the Australian government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, as well as council. Council would like to thank our community for their patience during the works being undertaken.
San Remo road upgrade
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Councillor Michael Whelan said, "Shetland Heights Road is now open to the public. There are still some minor works on the nature strips to be completed. VicRoads have approved a new speed of 50 km/h and people will see the new signage which is displayed from Potters Hill Road to Back Beach Road to indicate this."
"As I've mentioned before, we're very excited that we have now been able to upgrade this important link in San Remo with a sealed road and footpaths. This project has enabled some great safety and amenity benefits for the San Remo community and those accessing services. As we continue to experience growth in our region, we are pleased to be able to provide infrastructure upgrades to meet the needs of our community," Cr Whelan said.
