Tragic coastal incident

One woman was able to make her way back to shore, while a second woman was later located in the water but sadly could not be revived. The search for a 41-year-old man who also entered the water remains ongoing at the time of this statement.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead expressed the community's sorrow at the devastating news. "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of those involved in this terrible incident. This is an unimaginable loss, and on behalf of council and the wider Bass Coast community, I offer our heartfelt condolences during this incredibly difficult time."

Punchbowl Rocks is a rugged and remote section of coastline, and council echoes the advice of emergency services in urging caution around coastal rock platforms, where conditions can change rapidly and become dangerous without warning.

Beach safety reminder

For the most up-to-date and accurate information about beach safety, council encourages the community and visitors to use the Surf Life Saving Australia BeachSafe app, which provides real-time updates on local conditions and hazards.

Visitors are also reminded to follow all safety signage at beach entry points. Council thanks all emergency service personnel and volunteers involved in the response and ongoing search efforts. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic event.
