Creative Gippsland Is Coming!Creative Gippsland has begun the journey towards May! By Bass Coast - 8th April 2014 - Back to News This is the sixth annual Gippsland Arts Festival for ‘all of May and all of Gippsland’.
Like all previous festivals, the month highlights exhibitions, events, music, performances, workshops, installations and creative 'making'.
The Festival extends from Phillip Island all the way to Mallacoota, and is jam-packed everywhere in between.
The program is big enough to have something for everyone, whatever your creative taste.
Creative Gippsland will be showcasing over 100 events, exhibitions, workshops, festivals and markets, so keep your eye on www.creativegippsland.com.au to find new and exciting things are added all the time.
After it’s success in 2013, this year will also see the return of the Gippsland Gatescape.
Once again, Creative Gippsland is asking you to beautify your gate – garden gate, farm gate, school gate, yard gate – in fact any gate!
Make your gate stand out from the crowd with your creative ideas and ingenuity throughout May, with great prizes on offer.
People don’t need to spend a fortune decorating their gate and Gatescape artworks could include used machinery parts, recycled materials, timber and fabric, tin, steel – anything non-perishable and anything that comes to hand!
Community groups may like their gate to reflect current issues of significance to locals, while others may choose to examine cultural themes. School students may like to create a story about their school and its achievements and successes, or favourite teachers!
It’s easy – all you need to do is decorate your gate, take a photo and upload it onto the website. All gates will be shown on the website, along with its location and the brief description on the theme you provide. Entries can be made right up until 15 May when the judging will be held. Everyone can vote for your favourite in the People’s Choice Award too.
Two gates were winners in Bass Coast in 2013, with the Best Primary School Gate awarded to Bass Valley Primary School for their gate Creating Space and the Best Farm Gate awarded to Goat Island Farm and Gallery in Wonthaggi for their gate Emohruo.

Gippsland artists, galleries, makers and performers are all counting down to 1 May when the Festival kicks off across the entire Gippsland region, so you can go exploring, perhaps to places you’ve never been before in the region, or take a punt on something new.
