Event organisers, Police and Bass Coast Shire Council are ready for the crowd heading our way for the 2007 Yamaha Phillip Island Superbike World Championship, held March 2-4.

If good weather appears, organisers expect an increase on the 65,000 that attended last year’s three day event.

Council’s Events Coordinator, Frank Angarane said a significant plan to manage the traffic is in place, particularly for the Sunday.

"But we still encourage people to try and stay off the roads around the circuit and main roads to Phillip Island late Saturday and Sunday afternoons, when traffic is expected to be busiest.

"Back Beach Road will operate one way out from the track to Phillip Island Road at the end of the main race. We expect this to be at around 4pm on the Sunday afternoon. The blue line will operate to the Anderson roundabout."

"Generally we have a high amount of motorbikes, which helps the traffic clear quicker."

Mr Angarane said traffic arrangements to the circuit will be normal on the Friday.

"The Saturday traffic from Cowes to the circuit will be directed via Berrys Beach Road, with Gap Road being used for emergency services and shuttle bus access.

"Shuttle bus services will be in place for all three days of the event. People don’t need to book, but for more information you can call Phillip Island Bus lines on 5952 2500."

Night time activities will run again this year in Cowes, said Mr Angarane.

"The Jetty Triangle will operate as a licensed area on Saturday night, with a live band playing to midnight."

The jetty area, including part of The Esplanade will stay closed all day Saturday. Thompson Avenue, between The Esplanade and Chapel Street, will be closed as needed and dependant on crowd numbers.

Mr Angarane added that The Europa tour ship is also due to arrive on the Saturday.

"The Jetty Triangle will also be used as a pick up spot for visitors wanting to travel to attractions around the Island."
