New geothermal aquatic centre opens in Gippsland
Opening of a facility to help the community's wellness and economy.
The Andrews Labor Government is pleased to announce the opening of the $57 million Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre in Traralgon. The state-of-the-art centre is the first in Victoria to utilise geothermal heat from underground to heat its swimming pools. It is an environmentally friendly, sustainable energy source, which will assist in significantly reducing the carbon footprint and providing annual energy cost savings for the Aquatic Centre.

A venue for leisure and events
The Victorian Government has provided $46 million in funding for the centre, that features a range of facilities for:
- Competitive swimming
- General community use
- Leisure for the community and visitors
- Major regional events
Features of the new recreation centre
This includes an eight-lane 50 metre indoor swimming pool with 500 spectator seats. The centre also includes a range of health and wellbeing features to suit everyone including an:
- Gym space
- Indoor play zone
- Water slides
- Wellness centre
Support for community’s wellness
Parliamentary Secretary of Water, Harriet Shing said, "We are so proud to continue our support for the Latrobe Valley, and now that the GRAC is open, the well-being and community benefits, competitive advantages and calendar of elite sporting events will continue drive pride of place, improved health outcomes, and economic growth across the region."
