Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium back in public handsLatrobe City Council will take back ownership of the Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium, following a $4.2 million contribution by the Victorian government towards the purchase and upgrade of the facility. By Portal Admin - 28th July 2017 - Back to News Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said the venue had been privately owned for the past 15 years.
"Having the stadium back in public hands allows us to develop the facility so that it will become a regional showpiece for soccer and other major events. The upgrades will include a synthetic sports field and lighting for night matches," Cr O’Callaghan said.
"This opens up many opportunities to host major sporting events to support our reputation as the go-to regional events venue.
"We are looking forward to working with the user groups to understand what works will need to be undertaken to upgrade the facility. Collaboration and communication will be key to delivering a venue that forms a part of the ongoing and significant improvements and additions to community and sporting infrastructure in our region.
"We also take this opportunity to welcome the appointment of Larry Sengstock to the role of Major Projects Director. Mr Sengstock will be an instrumental leader in the role out of $85 million in sporting infrastructure funding.
"Mr Sengstock joins Latrobe City having most recently worked as an associate consultant with leading sport and leisure consulting firm, Otium Planning Group.
Through this connection he has been involved with numerous sports facilities projects in the Valley and has a well developed understanding of the community.
"He has an extensive background in project management in both the scoping and delivery of major sporting infrastructure as well as the planning and implementation of major multi-sports events.
"These are exciting times in our transition journey and we thank the State Government for its generous funding for this project," Cr O’Callaghan said.
Mr Sengstock said he was excited to be part of this new initiative.
"I look forward to working with all members of the community to ensure we deliver great facilities but more importantly the opportunity to create all levels of social and economic benefits," Mr Sengstock said.
