Mr Ingram has written to the Minister for Roads and Ports, Tim Pallas, calling on the State Government to allocate funding to VicRoads to address the safety concerns.

"There are a variety of issues which need to be addressed on this section of Australia’s number one highway," Mr Ingram said.

"These include road surface issues, additional passing lanes, improved road alignments and wider shoulders.

"I believe that given the terrain, traffic volumes and numbers of heavy vehicles utilising the Princes Highway east, the provision of further improvements would be welcomed by visitors and local users.

"There are very limited passing opportunities where motorists can safely overtake

"Long queues of vehicles behind slow moving log trucks or caravans are common.

"I am sure that most drivers would appreciate improvements that have been made to the Princes Highway over the last 20 years, however, there are still real concerns that the overall safety along this section of highway still falls well short of what is expected on a national highway.

"I have called on the Minister for Roads and Ports to ensure that VicRoads secures further funding to bring this important corridor to an acceptable safety standard and provide safer travelling conditions for motorists," Mr Ingram concluded.
