Mayor Harvey Bates said the promotion pack’s major aim is to attract new investment to the region.

"The East Gippsland Economic Development Promotion Pack will assist Council in attracting potential business investors to the region, as well as helping existing companies expand," Cr Bates said.

"We’ve seen many local businesses expand in recent times to become leaders in their industry, exporting to all parts of Australia.

"We will continue to support these businesses, as well as enticing potential investors to East Gippsland," he said.

Today’s launch of the promotion pack, held at Patties Foods, coincided with Minister Brumby’s announcement of the natural gas extension program for East Gippsland.

"The availability of reticulated gas will not only provide an economic boost to local businesses such as Patties and Vegco, it will encourage the relocation of other industries to the region," Cr Bates said.

"The promotion pack was also designed to achieve these objectives and the availability of reticulated gas will provide a significant and additional incentive to our target audience."

Cr Bates said the East Gippsland Economic Development Promotion Pack was supported financially by a State Government grant.

The package includes a CD and video presentation highlighting the region’s lifestyle and investment opportunities, a 16-page booklet, fact sheets on various industries, an introductory flyer and a presentation kit.

"There were many people involved in the production of the package and they should be congratulated on what has led to a high quality, professional product," Cr Bates said.

"Council has received positive feedback from local business operators and will continue to use the product as a promotional tool to try and attract investors to the region, as well as promoting the lifestyle advantages of living in East Gippsland."
