Minister for Water, Hon John Thwaites announced earlier today that funding has been made available for Loch Sport to receive new water infrastructure and Coongulla and Glenmaggie are to receive sewerage services.

Each sewerage and water scheme will initially receive up to $25,000 to complete a concept design and up to $140,000 to prepare functional and detailed design, tender specification and then undertake tenders.

Gippsland Water has also received funding through the Gippsland Lakes Rescue Package for the provision of sewerage infrastructure for Seaspray, Loch Sport and Honeysuckles.

Gippsland Water Chief Executive Officer Mr John Mitchell said "The provision of sewerage services and new water will be essential for facilitating development of healthier communities in country towns and to prevent pollution of our waterways from untreated domestic and industrial waste systems. "

"Gippsland Water is committed to working with our community, local government and state government authorities to determine innovative and affordable solutions to water and wastewater management" he concluded.

The Seaspray sewerage scheme program is well advanced in planning and design with a proposal to construct a stand-alone wastewater treatment plant. This proposal was found to provide the most appropriate solution to the challenges faced in sewering this coastal town and was determined in consultation with the Seaspray community, Wellington Shire Council and Government authorities

Gippsland Water has also been working with Wellington Shire Council and EPA to determine options for providing innovative and affordable solutions to water and wastewater management for coastal towns along the 90 Mile Beach.
