Heyfield Hub community complex opening by Minister Brumby

Friday 10 December will see the official opening of the eagerly-awaited new $800,000 Heyfield Hub community complex – a joint partnership between the local community, the State and Federal Governments and Wellington Shire Council.

By Wellington Shire Council - 3rd December 2004 - Back to News

The opening will be conducted by the Hon. John Brumby MP, Minister for State and Regional Development, at 38 McFarlane Street, at 1.30pm. Amongst those also attending will be: Wellington’s Mayor, and CEO Lyndon Webb; Craig Ingram, State Member for Gippsland East; and representatives of the local community.

Features of this exciting new facility – which represents a substantial revamp of the original Heyfield Library and public hall – include:

  • a dramatically extended library section – enlarged in size from 38 sq.m to 230 sq.m to enable a big increase in the number of books and audio-visual items stocked, and incorporating a new dedicated area for PCs offering Internet access and a larger children’s area;
  • new toilet facilities and a new kitchen;
  • installation of a ramp to improve access to the complex for those with a disability;
  • a Federal Government-funded multi-purpose Rural Transaction Centre – with meeting rooms and facilities for visiting essential service providers.

Funding for the project includes $280,000 from the Victorian Government through its Living Libraries Program and Bushfire Recovery Fund, $153,000 from the Federal Government through its Rural Transaction Centre program, over $300,000 from Wellington Shire Council and $70,000 from the local community.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "This much needed new complex is a fantastic resource centre for the residents of Heyfield and the surrounding area, and is a fantastic example of what partnerships between the local community and the various tiers of government can achieve. We wish this Hub every success for the future."

Minister Brumby’s visit to Wellington on 10 December will also see him officially opening Stage 1 of the Port of Sale redevelopment and the $320,000 major refurbishment and extension to the historic Stratford Mechanics Hall.
