Yinnar South Primary School joins LatrobeFirst campaign

Yinnar South Primary School became the latest group to join the LatrobeFirst campaign on Tuesday, when they ran a special school assembly celebrating the great things the Latrobe Valley has to offer.

Principal of Yinnar South Primary School, Mark Anderson, invited parents and children to hear guest speakers Richard Hancock Chairperson of the Latrobe Valley Ministerial Taskforce Marketing Advisory Panel (MAP) and Scot Gardner famous local children’s book author and LatrobeFirst Ambassador.

Starting at midday the assembly featured performances by school musicians, the results of a poster/ picture drawing project inspired by visits to the LatrobeFirst website, and short talks by Richard Hancock and Scot Gardner.

Mr Hancock said the Marketing Advisory Panel had been absolutely delighted when Mark Anderson suggested that the Yinnar South Primary School could get involved.

"This school is demonstrating its commitment to the Latrobe Valley and we hope that many other schools, local organisations and residents will join them as LatrobeFirst Ambassadors," Mr Hancock said.

Principal of Yinnar South Primary School, Mark Anderson, said that joining the LatrobeFirst program had seemed the right thing to do.

"This campaign is as much about changing our own perceptions of the Latrobe Valley as it is marketing the region to Melbourne and further afield. We discussed the concept with the school community before making the commitment and everyone saw the positive benefits of the program," Mr Anderson said.

"The LatrobeFirst website was an inspiration for a range of school based learning activities. LatrobeFirst is about creating a positive and sustainable shift in the way the Latrobe Valley is perceived. To achieve this we need to reach the young people in our community as well as the adults," Mr Anderson said.

Mr Hancock added that Yinnar South Primary School had demonstrated the sort of leadership and advocacy the Marketing Advisory Panel was seeking to encourage through LatrobeFirst.

"LatrobeFirst continues to gather momentum as residents of the Latrobe Valley get behind the campaign to positively promote the region. The LatrobeFirst Ambassador Program is open to those who are positive and passionate about the Latrobe Valley and are prepared to promote the benefits of living and working in the region," Mr Hancock said.
