Wellington Shire hard waste collection returns with added E-Waste recycling option from 29 September until 31 October 2025
Wellington Shire 2025 hard waste collection runs 29 September - 31 October, now including e-waste. Residents should separate items and follow guidelines for safe, convenient disposal and improved environmental outcomes.
Beginning on 29 September and concluding on 31 October 2025, council's hard waste collection provides residents with a convenient way to dispose of large, bulky items that cannot be collected through regular waste collection services.
Wellington Shire Council now accepts e-waste as part of its hard waste collection. E-waste is any item that requires a battery or plug to operate. Please pile e-waste items separately
Expanded hard waste collection
This year, in addition to items previously accepted, council will collect e-waste that has been piled separately and contained. E-waste is any item that requires a plug or batteries to work. Hard waste collection will commence on the following dates:
- If your bin is collected on a Friday, your hard waste collection will begin on Monday 29 September
- If your bin is collected on a Thursday, your hard waste collection will begin on Monday 6 October
- If your bin is collected on a Wednesday, your hard waste collection will begin on Monday 13 October
- If your bin is collected on a Tuesday, your hard waste collection will begin on Monday 20 October
- If your bin is collected on a Monday, your hard waste collection will begin on Monday 27 October
Council reminds residents to place their hard waste items on their nature strip before 6am on the Monday that collection begins. However, residents should ensure that items are placed no more than one week prior to their scheduled collection date to keep streets manageable and clean.
To ensure a safe collection for contractors, hard waste is to be placed on residents' nature strips only. Steel, scrap metal and e-waste are to be piled separately, with the total hard waste size limit being 1.5 cubic metres.
E-waste collection convenience
Wellington Shire Council Mayor Councillor Scott Rossetti said by adding e-waste to this year's collection, council was providing a convenient way for residents to responsibly get rid of items that can be trickier to dispose of at their end of life.
"While e-waste can be recycled free of charge at any of council's Transfer Stations, council is hoping residents take advantage of the convenience of only having to travel to their nature strip to dispose of defunct e-waste items."
"As e-waste is no longer permitted in Victoria's landfills because of its hazardous environmental impact, collected e-waste items will be recycled separately by council's hard waste collection contractor, Dasma," Cr Rossetti said.
Hard waste collection
Council conducts hard waste pick up from residents in declared garbage collection areas that already have a kerbside bin collection, as part of the garbage service charge listed on their rates notices. It reduces illegal dumping, promotes recycling and reuse and improves community cleanliness.
To view the hard waste collection schedule, or for a full list of items which are acceptable for collection, please visit Wellington Shire Council website or phone hard waste contractor Dasma on 4124 3000.
