Gippsland Incident Control Centre Update - Thursday

The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) is continuing to visit flood-affected areas to assess damage and determine landholder’s immediate needs.

DPI Incident Controller, Daniel Miller, said the focus of DPI’s response has shifted further east with field crews concentrating their visits to the Bairnsdale area.

"If farmers in this area are affected and have not been contacted, we encourage them to make contact with DPI," Mr Miller said.

Field teams visiting flood affected landholders have been gathering information about damage on farms including stock losses, fences down, damages to homes and other agriculture related impacts from the floods.

To date, field staff have conducted 1766 farm visits with damage reported to 35,660 hectares.

Stock lost or unaccounted for include:

Number of sheep lost 2,912

Number of beef cattle lost 543

Number of dairy cattle lost 326

At present, 2830 tonnes of hay have been lost.

NOTE: Figures for lost animals may fluctuate slightly if unaccounted animals are found.

Affected Gippsland landholders are advised to contact the Maffra DPI Incident Control Centre on 1800 729 834 to register their details. The call centre is open between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm
