Residents Reminded That Burning Off Is Not Permitted In Urban Areas google.com.au Latrobe City Council would like to remind residents in urban areas that the burning of any waste in backyards or other areas of their properties is not permitted; By Latrobe City Council - 14th April 2010 - Back to News Lifting of the fire restrictions earlier this week is timely to inform and remind residents.
Latrobe City’s acting manager legislative compliance, Peter Fraser, said that other than fires for cooking purposes or using a chimenea, burning in residential zones is prohibited.
"Smoke from backyard fires is a nuisance and can cause concern for other residents in urban settings. Other than cooking or for personal warmth, no fire should be lit on a residential property, including fires in incinerators or other makeshift receptacles.
"I would urge residents with green waste such as leaves or small branches to either compost the material, to dispose of it by using their green waste bins, or alternatively take it to a local green waste disposal site. Council also offers free green waste disposal weekends throughout the year. Keep any eye on local media for the next scheduled dates," Mr Fraser said.
"If residents are unsure about the rules, or if they require further information, they can contact the municipal fire prevention officer at council on 1300 367 700. Applications for permits to burn in a residential zone will be assessed by the municipal fire prevention officer on a case by case basis," Mr Fraser concluded.
