Young people encouraged to apply and join the Latrobe City Youth Council for 2023
Young people aged between 14 to18 years old with ideas and energy about how to make our city a better place are encouraged to apply for the Latrobe City Youth Council.
The Youth Council provides an opportunity to gain hands-on leadership experience through a range of activities. Youth Councillors meet once a fortnight to share their ideas on a range of issues, aiming to bring relevant ideas to Latrobe City Councillors. They also have the opportunity to be part of council and community events, such as the Australia Day Community Awards and ANZAC Day commemorations.

Empowering young people
Mayor of Latrobe City Cr Kellie O'Callaghan said the Youth Council provided an important link between young people and council. "We value the ideas and views of young people, which help to make sure the decisions we make as a council reflect the current and future needs of our whole community. "
"Empowering young people to have a strong voice and listening to their insights is an important part of building a strong and connected community. It's also a great opportunity for Youth Council members to gain new leadership skills and establish links within their communities," said the Mayor.
Get involved in the engagement
The Latrobe City Youth Council was established in 1996, offering the youth of Latrobe City an opportunity to get involved in meaningful engagement with local government and have input into the future planning and policies.
It also serves as a means of further developing the leadership skills and capacity of young people, building their connections with the community and one another.
Expressions of Interest are now open for young people to fill up to 20 positions on the Youth Council. For more information and to apply, visit Youth Council page.
