Gippsland Cream Is A Big Cheese In National AwardsGippsland has scored a top award for its cream in the dairy industry’s major national awards. By Susan Webster - 22nd February 2007 - Back to News Gippsland Dairy Pure Double Cream won the Champion Cream in the 2007 Australian Grand Dairy Awards, attended by Sussan Ley, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, on February 9.
Made by Dandenong-based Bead Foods from organic milk, Gippsland Dairy Pure Double Cream is pure, unadulterated cream. Bead Foods is an Australian-owned private company established in July 2001.
Judges noted that: "Gippsland Dairy Pure Double Cream has a smooth, velvety texture and a refined flavour that was rich but not cloying."
"This cream has been recognised as the best-of-the-best, made with milk from Australian dairy farms," said Richard Lange, Group Manager – Marketing, Dairy Australia – the organisation behind the awards.
Australian Grand Dairy Award winners have the right to incorporate prestigious symbols on their packaging - helping consumers identify the ‘best-of-the-best’.
The Australian Grand Dairy Awards are in their eighth year. This year’s awards comprised more than 360 entries representing 95 Australian dairy manufacturers.
"Some of the entrants were small one-or-two person enterprises. Some are much larger companies. They are all driven by the desire for excellence," said Mr Lange. "Even with ongoing drought affecting much of rural Australia, the awards saw no decrease in the number or quality of entrants."
Judging by an independent panel took place in November. A chief judge, supported by highly qualified technical experts, cheesemakers, providores, food media and chefs undertook blind tastings to ensure the credibility and integrity of the awards.
The winners were announced at a special presentation in Melbourne’s Federation Square.
