Darren Chester backs Gippsland community efforts supporting disability services, vision impairment, and motor neurone disease fundraising
Darren Chester supported local initiatives, including low vision support, disability services, and fundraising for Motor Neurone Disease, highlighting community efforts in Bairnsdale, Yarram, and Glengarry to improve lives and raise awareness.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester with founders of the Visionaries Group, auspiced by U3A Bairnsdale, Jody Herbert and Brenda Murray, at the free information day hosted by the group in Bairnsdale. An estimated 575,000 Australians experience low vision and blindness, and the local group is determined to provide support and practical solutions for people who are impacted and face daily challenges.

Chester supports visionaries

Mr Chester said the team at Mirridong have been doing incredible work for people with disabilities in the South Gippsland community since 1966, providing a diverse range of disability support, education and community services for individuals in Yarram and the surrounding areas of Foster, Carrajung and Woodside.

The Glen Freeze
The crew at the Glengarry Hotel picked the perfect day to 'dunk' some well-known locals in the name of charity, including Federal MP Darren Chester. The Glen Freeze was organised to raise money to help the fight against Motor Neurone Disease, which kills two Australians every day.

"Sadly, the Glengarry locals have had some direct experience of MND in recent times, and they decided to support the fundraising effort and have a bit of fun at the same time. Patrons paid for the chance to dunk me and several other volunteers. The icy water was actually a nice relief on a 30-degree day!" Mr Chester said.
