Impact of lockdown on regional Victorian and Gippsland jobs and businesses
Lockdowns keep bringing Victorians into struggle without much support from the government.
We’ve been asked to sacrifice a lot in the past 12 months, but a frustrating failure to learn from past mistakes leaves too many Victorians again wondering if they will be able to afford to put food on the table. An estimated 500,000 Victorians who work casually will bear the brunt of Labor’s latest snap lockdown.
Lockdowns has brought significant change to people’s lives and business activities nationally, regionally, and globally, securing jobs, supporting companies and maintaining essential service provision are the economic consequences of these occurred as lockdowns and other containment measures
No work means no pay
While Labor’s lockdown has banned them from going to work, the bills will keep piling up. But they’ve been abandoned by a State Government that’s failed to put up a cent of meaningful financial support.
Our small businesses are facing a similar struggle
At a time when regional businesses were just starting to recover, the fourth lockdown is expected to inflict a hit of up to $150 million on the regional economy. The State Government has announced support for businesses but given many are still waiting for Labor to deliver on grants promised back at February’s lockdown there’s wide skepticism the latest ‘promise’ will actually be followed through.
Jobs and small business are fragile
More lockdowns and more taxes are the last thing we need. Shutting the entire state down is not proportionate and has penalised small businesses and residents in areas with no COVID. Lockdown should be a last resort, but it’s become the knee-jerk response of a Labor Government that just can’t get the basics right.
