The Conference is organised by the Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with Disability and provides people with disability the opportunity to ‘have a say’ about issues that affect their lives, and develop strategies to address these issues.

The Conference theme for 2018 is 'Community – Here I am!' which will talk about the importance of having a healthy life, a caring family and a meaningful job. The Having a Say Conference is a place where people can speak up and have their voices heard, be respected and empowered, and have fun meeting and engaging with new people.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, explained that in 2016, 6.6% of the population in Bass Coast Shire reported needing help in their day-to- day lives due to a severe or profound disability.

"This conference provides the opportunity for people with disability from all around Australia and the world to get together, share experiences and celebrate achievements," Cr Rothfield said.

"Council will sponsor two Bass Coast residents to attend the Having a Say Conference, and we hope these delegates will come back with some new ideas about how to improve the health and wellbeing of people with disability who live in and visit Bass Coast."

People wishing to nominate have until 2.00pm on Friday, 5 January 2018 to submit a nomination form. Council will fund the registration fee, accommodation and a small food allowance for the two successful nominations.

Assistance to complete a nomination form can be provided on request.

Nomination forms are available on or by contacting the Social and Community Planning Administration Officer on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or (03) 5671 2211 or email
