Road Sides Not For Storage

With the current hay season getting into full swing Wellington Shire Council is reminding landholders that the road reserve is not an appropriate place to store silage, fodder or farm machinery.

By Wellington Shire Council - 26th November 2007 - Back to News

"In the past some farmers have stored their fodder or machinery on roadsides and this potentially causes safety and service access problems, said Mr Colin Adams, Manager Customer Services for Wellington Shire Council.

"All storage needs to be within the landholder’s property boundary."

Mr Adams also reminded landholders that Council invites applications for permits to graze stock on roadsides.

"Currently these permits are issued free of charge, but in the interest of the safety of road users and stock, landholders are required to abide by all conditions issued with the roadside grazing permit," said Mr Adams.

Mr Adams said the charge for the grazing permit was temporarily suspended in response to pressures on landholders caused by the drought.

"We recognise there are still problems caused by the drought even though we have had rain and are keeping the permits free of charge for the time being," said Mr Adams.
