By Latrobe City Council - 26th August 2009 - Back to News

Welcome Strangers are a band made up of musicians Greg O’Leary, Greg Hildebrand, Peter Somerville and Ian Tritt who will present a night of cross-cultured music.

The band aims to combine music from the bush and hillbilly traditions of Australia and America to present ‘Nuggets from here and there’.

Their music aims to conjure up what it was like in the early settler days in rural Australia and in particular rural Victoria.

Their regional tour will take them to thirteen towns in Victoria and will see them stop in at the Tyers Hall on Sunday 6 September 2009 for a wonderful performance.

Music inspired by musical periods such as the Minstrelry, Banjos, Hawaiian, Hillbilly see the band tackle similar songs and themes from both continents and highlight a deep connection.

This band captures a style that is uniquely Australian in feel and respectfully representative of the countless unknown and almost forgotten fiddlers of rural Australia.

The American influence, yet uniquely dinki-di music the band will guarantee you a night of truly memorable Australian influenced music.

The Welcome Strangers will be performing live at the Tyers Hall on Sunday 6 September 2009 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available through the Latrobe Valley Box Office on 5176 3559.

Welcome Strangers is part of the Café Culture Series 2009 and is proudly presented locally by Latrobe City Council with assistance from Arts Victoria.
