Help Stop Dumpings Outside Charity Shops

Bass Coast Shire Council is calling on the community to help charity shops by not dumping material outside the shops during non-open hours.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 27th May 2005 - Back to News

Council’s Waste Management Officer, Pete Roberts, said the material being dumped outside the shops is primarily unusable.

"Some people believe they are helping by leaving a donation, but in other cases people just want to avoid tip fees.

"Whatever the reason, the volunteers that operate these charity shops are being put under immense pressure to dispose of this material.

"If community members could approach charity shop volunteers during businesses hours about the useability of their goods, it would help the volunteers and shop operators immensely."

Mr Roberts said that op shops were affected Shire-wide, particularly the Salvation Army and St Vincent De Paul in Wonthaggi and Emma House in Cowes.

Council Officers will closely monitor affected areas and littering fines will be issued to offenders.

All queries can be directed to Council’s Waste Management Officer, Pete Roberts, on (03) 5671 2211 or (03) 5951 3311.
