East Gippsland Shire Economic Development and Tourism Manager Brett Lynn said the Victorian Tourism Awards recognise and encourage tourism businesses that aspire for excellence in all areas of their work.

"The region should be proud of the three local entrants who have worked hard to prepare submissions for the awards that are a submission-based competition for tourism businesses, suppliers to the industry as well as outstanding individuals," he said.

Graham and Polly May from Clovelly Luxury B&B in Metung said that the process of producing a submission had been very useful for their own business in that they had been able to assess just what separates them from their competitors in the region and across the State.

"Our main objective in entering was to give the business extra exposure and recognition," Mr May said.

Neil and Lois Triggs from Stringybark Cottages near Bruthen on the Great Alpine Road said that they had three objectives in entering the Awards.

"We wanted to benchmark ourselves against similar businesses across Victoria, promote the fact that there is quality accommodation in the region, and use the Awards as a marketing tool for our own business," Mr Triggs said.
