Creative Gippsland's Be Inspired Arts Festival flicks the switch to ON this week, revealing a month of art and creativity across the region.

The festival will run from 1 - 31 May this year with a host of events to be held throughout the Gippsland region.

At the heart of the festival is We Feel at Latrobe Regional Gallery, Morwell. It’s the place to go for emotional expression! Visit the gallery and discover an amazing installation that explores the communication of emotions. Find our how people from around the world are feeling on an intriguing website. Take the opportunity to create a postcard about what’s in your heart and what’s on your mind. Attach your postcard to the gallery wall to help create a living ‘emotional map’ of the Valley and beyond.

Think about planning your artist studio tours. Sunday, 8 May is an Open Studios day in the Valley – take the time to discover some of your local artists. Carolyn Henry, Sue Coppock, Tracy Roberts, Werner and Ursula Theinert, and Wayne Milner invite you to catch a glimpse into their world of creativity.

Waste no time in inspecting Gippsland’s Creative Waste exhibition at Gallery arc in Yinnar. Creative and inventive works from recycled materials will provide food for thought…

Laughing is always good for the soul, so don’t miss the Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow - international and national artists will give your sense of humour a workout at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on 11 May.

For music lovers, be inspired at the Moe Music Festival on 1 May. Join your friends at Old Gippstown for a day of great music, feasting and a dash of history.

Other Festival highlights …

On Saturday, 30 April Inspirevent launches the festival in Civic Park, Warragul. Be a part of this drumming spectacular as brass bands, choirs, and young drummers led by Wulaba International beat their way to the West Gippsland Arts Centre.

On Friday 29 April Seen in the Light will illuminate the East Gippsland Art Gallery in Bairnsdale. Come along and peer into little black boxes for illuminating views. You will be delighted by these interactive artworks.

On Sunday 1 May 24 Hours is launched in the Bass Coast region, portraying a day in the life of Gippsland through the eyes of our most creative souls. Photographs, all shot on 17 April across the region were whisked to the 24 Hours headquarters for selection. The results will be displayed in participating business and shop fronts in Grantville, San Remo, Cowes, Wonthaggi and Inverloch.

The Arty Farty Latte Party continues in cafes around West Gippsland for the entire month of May. Visit Drouin Gourmet Cafe, The French Pear Cafe, Cafe Obsession, Red Parrot Cafe, Swaffields Store, Neerim South and sip a latte among the art.

In South Gippsland there's Mirboo North's Arty Gras and Art Show running over the Mothers Day weekend; while in Orbost it's the ever-popular Pizza Box Exhibition back at feastonart gallery at 2 pm on Saturday, May 7.

And lastly, don’t miss out - book now to be a part of the Festival finale in Lakes Entrance on 28 May. Featuring the locally crafted shadow puppetry Iddeus, this closing party at the Surf Club is the celebration of a big month.
