August 5 is Open Day at the Gippsland Campus. Prospective students and their families will be able to speak to university staff, current and past students about course requirements, the experience of life on campus and overall job outcomes from the course they choose to study. Visitors can also get a first hand look at the excellent facilities and accommodation the Campus has to offer. The Gippsland Education Precinct will be open for inspection along with staff from Gippsland Group Training and GippsTAFE. The Big Gig @ Monash, line dancing, a Rotary sausage sizzle, and for Year 12 students studying the film, GATTACA, a lecture by Dr Paul Atkinson from the School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences are just a small taste of the many and varied activities planned for the day.

‘Changes to the Industrial Relations Act and the Impact on Our Region’ Public Forum will be presented by The Institute for Regional Studies on Tuesday, July 25 from 1-2.30pm in lecture theatre 4N120. Speakers include Vice President MJ Lawler (Australian Industrial Relations Commission), David Gregory (General Manager Workplace Relations, Victorian Employer’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Cath Smith (Chief Executive Officer, Victorian Council of Social Service) and Simon Crean (Shadow Minister for Regional Development).

On Monday July 24, approximately 50 teachers from schools throughout Gippsland will be visiting the Gippsland Campus for the mid-year VTAC briefing. This years briefing will cover new initiatives and changes to the VTAC application process, and is to be conducted in the Business Conference Room, between 11am - 1pm, by John Wade, Director of VTAC, and Suzanne Connelly, Deputy Director, Information and Publishing Services at VTAC.

Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo will present ‘Towards a holistic approach to dealing with HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africaat the Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences Research Forum at the Gippsland Campus on Thursday, July 27 at 2pm. Nearly 70% of all HIV infections and people living with the virus are said to be in Sub-Saharan Africa. The model proposed in this discussion incorporates factors such as economic improvement, consciousness about HIV/AIDS and alterations in socio-cultural attitudes and beliefs.

• Making the Grade

The latest exhibition at the Gippsland Campus Switchback Gallery is an interactive and evolving installation, ‘Live Dream Act Connect’. ‘Live Dream Act Connect’ will be on exhibition until August 10 and visitors to the Campus on Open Day on August 5 will also have the opportunity to become part of the exhibition by making their way to the Centre for Art and Design and leaving their own impressions.
