Council Partners With RotaryWhen receiving emergency medical treatment or support in your home, it is important for your medical details to be readily available. By Bass Coast - 31st May 2013 - Back to News Thanks to a partnership between Bass Coast Shire Council and the Rotary clubs of Inverloch, Wonthaggi and Phillip Island/San Remo, your medical details can be available for quick and easy reference.
Council and Rotary have joint-funded the purchase of 2,000 Emergency Medical Information Books (EMIB) to distrubute throughout the community. EMIBs are used to record medical information and are utilised by a wide range of medical professionals, including Bass Coast Shire Council Assessment staff, District Nurses and Allied Health Professionals at Bass Coast Regional Health and Bass Coast Community Health Services.
Council, together with its partners Bass Coast Regional Health and Bass Coast Community Health, is distributing these booklets to all of their aged and disability clients. Council’s partners also use EMIBs to record what services are currently being provided in the home.
Council’s Community and Economic Development Director, Steve Piasente, said the EMIBs could help save lives in emergency situations.
"If an ambulance is called to a medical emergency the ambulance officers will refer to the EMIB. We have had positive feedback from Ambulance Victoria about how well these books are helping them in their role in the community," he said.
"Each book is in a plastic sleeve with magnets so the book can sit on the person’s fridge and staff from all partner agencies are encouraging clients to complete the EMIB.
Mr Piasente also praised the partnership between Council and the Rotary clubs to purchase the books.
"This project demonstrates the positive outcomes which can be achieved for the community when community agencies work closely with local service clubs like Rotary," he said.
