Council’s Work Awarded

Bass Coast Shire Council received two national awards.

Bass Coast Shire Council is proud to have recently received two national awards that recognise the efforts Council and the community are putting into being environmentally conscious.

In August, Council received the 2019 Carbon Cocky Award for Best Achievement by a Regional Council to encourage Carbon Farming/Emissions Reduction or Related Low Emissions Industries. This Award was presented at the National Carbon Farming Conference, held in Albury.

Council was nominated for the Carbon Cocky Award by Phillip Island’s Bob and Anne Davie. Bob and Anne nominated Council for providing support for the development of their Carbon In-setting Scheme, supporting the Totally Renewable Phillip Island initiative, achieveing Bronze Benchmarking which is a step towards Global Sustainable Tourism Council certification and a range of smaller projects Council has completed to reduce emissions.

Bob and Anne were also recognised for the work they have completed to develop their Carbon In-setting Scheme, winning the 2019 Carbon Cocky Award for Outstanding Performance in Carbon Trading Innovation.

Last Tuesday, Council received the award for Outstanding Local Government Initiative in Collection/Processing/Marketing at the Australian Organics Recycling Association awards.

The Australian Organics Recycling Association award was in recognition of Council’s Organics service and the impact it is having on diversion of organic waste from landfill, which is being better used as compost.

"This award is a testament to the great work the community is doing by embracing organics and the three-bin system," Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said.

"I would also like to congratulate Bob and Anne on their award, it is always great to see people in our community being rewarded for their efforts."

Council’s Waste Services Administration Officer Shelly Spencer and Waste Education Officer Adam Johns happily accepted the award for Outstanding Local Government Initiative in Collection/Processing/Marketing at the Australian Organics Recycling Association awards recently.
