Reflect, Remember, and Engage: ANZAC services, community input, business support, and events across South Gippsland
ANZAC Day services will be held across the region tomorrow. Council invites community feedback on key plans and hosts events including a Candlelight Vigil, business masterclasses, training, and Southern Lights Festival.
Tomorrow is ANZAC Day - a day to reflect on the sacrifice of those who came before us. Here is a list of services happening around South Gippsland:
- Fish Creek - 11.00am at the Cenotaph
- Foster - 11.00am at the Cenotaph (March at 10.40am from the car park opposite Pearl Park
- Korumburra - 5.45am dawn service and 10.45am service at Coleman Park
- Leongatha - 5.45am dawn service and 10.45am service at the Cenotaph
- Loch - 5.45 dawn service and 10.30 am service at the Cenotaph
- Meeniyan - March at 9.30am from the Cenotaph
- Mirboo North - 5.45am dawn service at Baromi Park and 10.30am service at Mirboo North Secondary College auditorium
- Mount Eccles - 2.30pm service at 5 Hall Road
- Poowong - 12.00pm service at the Cenotaph
- Tarwin Lower - 12.00pm service at the Cenotaph and in the Hall if raining
- Toora - 6.00am dawn service and 10.50am service at the Cenotaph
- Welshpool - 9.30am service at the Cenotaph

- Draft Council Plan 2025-2029: This Plan outlines the strategic direction for South Gippsland over the next four years, focusing on achieving the priorities set out in the 2040 Community Vision
- Draft Financial Plan 2025/26-2034/35: This long-term financial Plan provides a framework for managing Council's finances over the next decade. It includes projections for revenue, expenditure, and strategies to ensure financial sustainability
- Draft Revenue and Rating Plan 2025-2029: This Plan details the approach to generating revenue through rates and other charges. It aims to balance affordability for residents with the need to fund essential services and infrastructure
- Draft Budget 2025/26-2028/29: The Budget outlines the financial allocations for the upcoming financial year and the following three years. It includes detailed information on planned projects, services, and initiatives to support the community
- Draft Asset Plan 2025-2035: This Plan provides a strategic roadmap for managing Council's assets, ensuring they are maintained and used efficiently
- Draft Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025-2029: This Plan focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of the South Gippsland community as well as strategies to address related challenges

Candlelight Vigil
On Wednesday 7 May, South Gippsland Shire Council will be hosting a Candlelight Vigil to remember the lives taken as a result of family violence. This year's event will be held in the Pocket Park (adjacent to Memorial Hall) from 6.30 to 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

What's on South Gippsland
Great Southern Rail Trail Tourism Forum
South Gippsland Shire Council in partnership with Wellington Shire Council and Rail Trails Australia present the Great Southern Rail Trail Tourism Forum. This Forum is an opportunity for our local businesses to understand how they can leverage from the Rail Trail. We will also be sharing an update on enhancements to the Rail Trail experience and launching new promotional material.

Southern Lights Festival

Citizenship Ceremony
Last night Council officially welcomed eight of South Gippsland's newest citizens at a Citizenship Ceremony held at the Council Chambers in Leongatha. The conferees from New Zealand, England, United Kingdom, United States of America, Zimbabwe and North Macedonia formally pledged their commitment to Australia in front of a warm crowd of family and friends, representing the growing cultural tapestry of our Shire.

Corner Inlet Motorcycle Club Lease
The proposed lease of 2746 Meeniyan Promontory Road, Yanakie to the Corner Inlet Motorcycle Club is now open for community consultation, as part of Council's budget feedback process.
Council is proposing to lease the site to the Club for five years as of 1 July 2025, with an option for a further lease term of five years for the purpose and use of the land as a motorcycle track and club. Speight Street, Loch
South Gippsland Shire Council is considering renaming a section of Speight Street in Loch, to Albert Road following a community request. The current naming does not comply with Geographic Names Victoria's rules, causing potential confusion for road users and emergency services.

Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (HLTAID010)
If roads were cut and emergency services delayed, would you know what to do if someone was in need of urgent medical assistance?
Join us for our upcoming community training session: Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (HLTAID010). There are two in-person sessions to choose from:
Foster, Manna Gum Community House: Saturday 3 May from 2.00pm to 5.00pm.
Venus Bay Community Centre: Monday 5 May from 6.00pm to 9.00pm.
