Jordan Crugnale MP re-elected as Member for Bass in 2022

Bass Coast Shire Council congratulates Member for Bass, Jordan Crugnale on her re-election to the seat.

Mayor Cr Michael Whelan said he looked forward to working closely with Ms Crugnale to achieve positive outcomes for the region in her second term. "The election result in the seat of Bass Coast was extremely close and reflects the changing demographics in the area."

Strong local voice

Cr Whelan said, "As one of the state's fastest growing regions we need a strong local MP fighting side-by-side with the council for every dollar of extra funding from the state government. Jordan is passionate about our region and a strong local voice for the community."

Cr Whelan also said that the council would be lobbying the state government on many fronts to ensure everyone living in Bass Coast gets a fair slice of the government's spending. Among council's priorities for the re-elected Andrews' Labor government will be a fairer share of funding, leadership and continued investment in the region.

Mitigating the impacts

Action on Climate Change is a priority. The community and council have confirmed a shared target of zero net emissions by 2030 and we call on the state government to urgently fund initiatives and implement policy change.

"Fighting coastal erosion needs the full support of the state government because everyone living in Bass Coast can see the impact of climate change in our region. We want to work closely with the state government on mitigating the impacts so we can save our beautiful beaches. Assessments have been undertaken as part of the Cape to Cape Resilience Project and on-going funding to implement works are required now." Cr Whelan stated

Council has also called on the state government to integrate environment and climate change policy into Victorian planning schemes and create greater incentives for low income and vulnerable community members in relation to energy efficiency and emission reduction projects.

Needing leadership and policy

Alongside Climate Change action, we call on the state government to implement legislation to further regulate the waste industry. "Waste continues to drive up ratepayer costs and combined with imposed EPA levies that means bigger bills for our region."

"We need leadership and policy to help us avoid waste, followed by ensuring what we do use is easy to recycle. We need industry support to foster the development of products and development of markets for more recycled products."

We also look forward to working closely with Jordan Crugnale MP on increased funding for the region for our growing community and for the tourists who help drive our economy. "Bass Coast is growing at an extraordinary rate and that means services must grow as fast." Mayor Whelan said.
