Focus On Summer Safety

Having a safe and enjoyable holiday season is the focus of the latest Coastell newsletter from Bass Coast Shire Council. Houses and businesses across the Shire will receive the newsletter from 6 December.

Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bawden, said the Summer Safety Coastell is full of useful and interesting information for residents, non-resident ratepayers and visitors.

"This edition focuses on our Summer Safety program," explained Mr Bawden.

"This includes our new ‘Enjoy it…don’t spoil it’ campaign, being a good neighbour, being prepared for emergencies, staying safe on our beaches and lots more.

"There are tips on dealing with increased traffic over the holidays and an events calendar on the last page, featuring local events and markets running all the way through summer."

A key focus of the newsletter is the Christmas and New Year’s Eve arrangements.

"There is an article on the decision to trial a ‘no entertainment or fireworks’ approach in Cowes this New Year’s Eve," confirmed Mr Bawden.

"There is also information on our local laws and restrictions, as well as details of the activities and services that go into making a happy holiday season."

Mr Bawden said the articles in Coastell highlighted the values of the local community and hopefully would encourage everyone to respect these.

"We want people to enjoy their visit to Bass Coast, but it’s important not to spoil other people’s enjoyment or to damage our beautiful natural environment," explained Mr Bawden.

"There are extra copies of this edition of Coastell being distributed through real estate agents, holiday letting agents and general stores to ensure that visitors have access to this information as well as knowing how we, as a community, expect them to behave."

Coastell also includes information on the Summer Series, dog off leash areas, environmental works on Phillip Island, safe cycling, funding for the Phillip Island Children’s Hub and getting close to nature.

Copies are available at Council Customer Service and Visitor Information Centres, as well as libraries and the YMCA.

Additional copies are available by contacting Council on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or visiting our website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au.
