Preparing for emergencies
Managing director Sarah Cumming said having a plan in place for your drinking water supply during emergencies is crucial. "Extreme weather events and extended power outages can impact how we deliver water in many ways. They can potentially damage the infrastructure that delivers water to our homes or, in the case of extended power outages, impact the rate at which we can treat water."
The organisation recommends storing drinking water in receptacles like water bottles or jugs. Ms Cumming said storing an alternate drinking water supply was only a precaution and the organisation would aim to notify customers of any unplanned outages. "If your water supply is interrupted, we'll aim to contact you directly via text message if your current mobile number is registered with us. We'll also provide information on our website and social media," Ms Cumming said.
"Our priority will always be to restore services as soon as possible. No matter the time, night or day, our teams are ready and well equipped to respond to interruptions," Ms Cumming said. For more information on how and when to store water for emergencies, visit Gippsland Water website.
