Latrobe City Council invites the community to watch Women's World Cup 2023 matches at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre, supporting the Matildas and celebrating international women's soccer with a vibrant atmosphere.

Latrobe City Council is thrilled to announce community members will be able to watch the upcoming Women's World Cup 2023 on the big screen in the forecourt of the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre. As one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year, the Women's World Cup showcases the finest talents in women's soccer from around the globe.

Celebrating Matildas' World Cup

Latrobe City, known for its passion for sports and vibrant community spirit, aims to bring people together to celebrate the beautiful game and support the Matildas as they take on the world. Community members will be able to view the Opening Ceremony and New Zealand versus Norway match on Thursday 20 July from 5pm, and the screening of the Australian team's group matches.

Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said that council was thrilled to be able to screen the Women's World Cup 2023 - Australian matches. "We are delighted to offer soccer enthusiasts a chance to come together and support our incredible Matildas on their journey to conquer the Women's World Cup 2023. This screening will create a vibrant and energetic atmosphere, allowing fans to cheer, celebrate, and share the joy of the game with fellow community members."

"Our community thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to gather for the screening of the Australian Men's soccer match some months ago, following the success of that event it is exciting that we will be able to offer the screening of Australian matches, along with the opening ceremony and first match," said the Mayor.

Cheering for Matildas

Mayor O'Callaghan also said, "This is a great opportunity to showcase international sport ahead of Latrobe City playing a key role as a regional host city of the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Whether you are a die-hard soccer fan or simply curious to experience the thrilling world of international women's soccer, the screening at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre will provide a great atmosphere for community to come together, along with the chance to witness the Matildas' determination and skill on the big screen."

Council encourages everyone to come along, wear their green and gold, and join in the excitement as we cheer on the Matildas and show our support for women's soccer.
