Latrobe Local News: Franklin Street footpath on Council's agendaLatrobe City Council has responded to community concern about the provision of a footpath By Latrobe City Council - 5th March 2001 - Back to News Tell us your opinion See what others have said Latrobe City Council has responded to community concern about the provision of a footpath linking the Traralgon CBD and the Franklin Park Estate along Franklin Street by pointing out that the footpath and pedestrian lighting has been on the Council's agenda for some time and will be completed in this year's Capital Works program.
"The need for a footpath along Franklin Street, given the development which has happened to the north of Traralgon, is well known," Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Tony Hanning said.
"The issue was whether the responsibility for building the footpath was totally Council’s or in part the developer of the new development. Clearly the funding responsibility needed to be sorted out in the interests of Latrobe ratepayers. However, understanding the priority of the pedestrian connection, Council moved to establish responsibility as soon as possible.
"Council has confirmed that it will build the footpath along Franklin Street within the next six months, with funds that are being allocated for this purpose," Cr Hanning said.
The footpath and pedestrian lighting is being constructed from Davidson Street beside the tennis courts, crossing to the east side of Franklin Street, connecting with the existing footpath network in the Franklin Park development.
