The Andrews Labor Government is supporting local communities across the state to host fun and free activities as part of this year’s Children’s Week celebrations.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing MP today invited eligible not-for-profit organisations and local councils in the Latrobe Valley to apply for grants of up to $1,000 to help children and their families enjoy the annual national celebration.

Children’s Week will be held this year from 24 October to 1 November and activities will be planned for Victorian children aged up to 12 years of age.

Grants of up to $1,000 are available for local councils and eligible not-for-profit organisations to host the free activities for this year’s celebrations.

Traditionally, Children’s Week attracts thousands of Victorian children taking part in activities such as art exhibitions, dance workshops, musical performances, picnics and sporting activities.

In recognition of coronavirus (COVID-19) circumstances, Children’s Week 2020 has been expanded to include online and virtual events for children. All in-person events will be subject to any Department of Health and Human Services guidelines in place at the time.

The theme for Children’s Week 2020 celebrates the right of children to choose and connect with their friends, based on Article 15 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Applications for grants close 5pm Wednesday 15 July 2020 and can be applied for by visiting www.education.vic.gov.au/childrensweek
