Liberal Member for Eastern Victoria Philip Davis yesterday acknowledged in the Parliament the hardship being experienced by those fighting bushfires in Gippsland and the north-east.

Mr Davis gave a notice of motion to the Parliament regarding the current bushfire threat.

"This House acknowledges the impact of the Great Divide bushfires on our rural communities and residents, who are living with the ever present tension of the threat of bushfire and being forced to keep a 24 hour watch to protect their homes and properties;

"The personal sacrifice of all those people fighting bushfires which are raging north and south of the Great Divide; and

"The contribution being made by thousands of volunteers, departmental fire fighters and property owners in protecting homes, communities and lives during this dangerous bushfire season," Mr Davis told the Parliament.

Mr Davis said those living in the bushfires hot-spots were weary from being on high alert for such an extended period.

"The bushfire threat is far from over, and it is imperative that everyone stays vigilant in protecting their properties," he said.

"We really do owe a great deal to the thousands of volunteer and departmental fire fighters who have been working so hard to fight these fires, and will continue to do so until the threat is over."
