The program has been initiated by the Regional Women’s Advisory Council, which advises Government on issues affecting rural women and so is very keen to gauge and represent their views on key issues.

The Gippsland Regional Women’s Conference will run on Wednesday 19 November at the new Esso BHP Billiton Wellington Entertainment Centre in Sale, from 9am to 4.30pm. Open to all women across the region, it will provide a great opportunity to meet and discuss notable issues affecting Gippsland, with workshops considering questions such as -

  • We are running out of water – what will we do?
  • Women and small business – what are the opportunities?
  • Rural communities are changing - how will we live together?

The cost to attend is $10, which includes lunch and refreshments. To book a place either drop by the Centre at 100 Foster Street or phone 5143 3200.

Said Wellington’s Mayor John Jago: "At least 50% of Australia’s population are women, and yet their voices are seldom heard enough when it comes to major issues like water and the state of rural communities.

"This conference should go some way to helping them redress the balance. They’ll be able to swap ideas and views, and to have an influence on the approach taken by Government on rural issues via the Regional Women’s Advisory Council."
