The Water Patrol vans ha ve been refitted to display Gippsland Water’s Permanent Water Saving Rules. These rules have been in place since December 2005 to help to stop water wastage, whilst encouraging all of us to value our water resources for the long term.

The six Water Patrol vans are used by Gippsland Water’s Water Quality team to monitor water quality across the region. Random water samples are taken daily in each town to ensure it meets safe drinking water guidelines.

Gippsland Water Chief Executive Officer, John Mitchell said that the benefits of continual water testing was twofold, ensuring both high water quality and the effective functioning of the water supply systems.

"Results from the water quality testing can indicate potential issues within the water reticulation system itself. Gippsland Water can then address these issues before they become problematic for customers," said Mr Mitchell.

As the name ‘Water Patrol’ suggests, Gippsland Water’s Water Quality team also monitors water use around town to ensure the resource is not being wasted.

"While undertaking water testing within the townships, the water quality team is in regular contact with the community and therefore in a unique position to remind customers of the need to continue to use water responsibly.

"While customers have made a conscientious effort to conserve water over the summer months, there is still a challenge ahead of us amid unseasonably dry conditions. It is important that we all do our bit to ensure that water supplies remain at a sustainable level, and everyone continues their water conservation efforts throughout the year," said Mr Mitchell.
