Rates fund local services like Maternal and Child Health, playgroups, business support, and sports facilities, in addition to essential services like roads and parks
Youth Council
Get ready for the Books and Snacks Youth Book Club, arranged by our very own Youth Council. Books and Snacks is a social gathering for young people aged between 12 and 25 years and is held on the 4th Saturday of every month from 11.00am to 12.00pm. The book club centres around reading, socialising and enjoying snacks. Additionally, it aims to support social and community connection for young people in our region.
My Community Library (MYLI) will be hosting the club, and it will all kick off at the Leongatha branch on Saturday 24 February from 11.00am. If you know any young people who would like to be part of the Youth Council's book club, please spread the word and keep an eye out for more details to come.

Korumburra streetscape renewal
Streetscape works in Korumburra will be starting soon. The works will help to improve pedestrian and driver movement, increase visual appeal and improve functionality. The renewal of Korumburra's CBD will promote positive community connection and economic growth.

Future of Coal Creek
The future of Coal Creek is up for discussion! At the final council meeting for 2023, the Coal Creek Discussion Paper was endorsed for community feedback.
The Discussion Paper outlines the Parks current situation, including key issues, strategic planning and proposes potential options for the future of the community facility to get the conversation started.
We would love to hear your thoughts at Your Say South Gippsland website. The online survey is open until 29 February with the engagement concluding 31 March 2024.
On December 13, 2023, the council decided to initiate community engagement and begin the statutory procedure, as per Local Government Act 2020, for property sales
Proposed sale of council land
Council at its ordinary meeting held 13 December 2023 resolved to commence the community engagement to Commences statutory procedure in accordance with Section 114 of the Local Government Act 2020 to sell the following properties:
- 270 Mount Best Tin Mine Road, Toora North
- 44 Pund Road, Foster
- 14 Radovick Street, Korumburra
- 21 Shellcot Road, Korumburra

Governance 101
Familiarise yourself with all things 'good governance' in our upcoming training session. Governance 101 will run you through the basics of all thing's governance, which will include:
- Explanation of Constitutions and the requirements of Consumer Affairs Victoria
- Legal responsibilities
- Committee roles and responsibilities
- Tips for running effective meetings
This session is designed for anyone involved with an Incorporated Association Committee or anyone thinking they may like to volunteer in a committee role. Boost Sustainable Living
South Gippsland and Bass Coast Shire Council have partnered with not-for-profit organisation Renew to deliver a series of free interactive webinars, to equip residents with information and tools to reduce their energy bills and live more sustainably.
The webinars will cover a range of topics including solar, home battery storage, electric vehicles, keeping warm in winter and cool in summer, as well as sustainable building practices.

Community grants
South Gippsland Shire Council's second round of Community Grants are now taking applications. Community Grants are an opportunity for council to give back to local clubs and community groups who give so much to others.
Grants can be used for both minor and major projects and equipment, planning and developing reports, and festivals and events. Tiny towns fund
From hiking trails, splash parks, and community hall upgrades to gallery fit outs, communities can apply for funding to support a range of projects that will make locals even prouder to call their town home and attract visitors.
Applications are now open with some conditions applying including co-contributions and populations lower than 5,000. Applications close 5.00pm Sunday 25 February. To find out more and to apply, please visit Regional Development website.
Enabling tourism fund
The Enabling Tourism Fund is supporting regional and rural Victorian tourism projects to reach investment-ready status by funding planning activities such as feasibility studies and design for future investment.
This fund will help to deliver a strong pipeline of demand-driving tourism infrastructure projects across Victoria. The fund will deliver two grant streams:
- Stream 1 - Testing the Concept: between $20,000 and $500,000 (excl. GST) for a project to test the concept of a new infrastructure project, such as a feasibility study, master plan or business case
- Stream 2 - Preparing for Investment: between $20,000 and $500,000 (excl. GST) to prepare a combination of materials to ensure that a project is ready for infrastructure investment. These could include a detailed design package, funding strategy, or stakeholder and community engagement plans
Applicants can only submit one application for either Stream 1 or Stream 2. Applications for the Enabling Tourism Fund 2024 will close at 5pm on 28 March 2024.
