With over 50 events, the festival reinforces its standing as the largest regional innovation festival in Australia.

Guests attending the launch will have the opportunity to view a showcase of local businesses before the more formal part of the launch begins.

Gippsland Innovation Festival chairperson, Paul Buckley, said the event, and the festival shows that Gippsland is really working together. "The range of products and services on display at the launch is evidence of a region bursting at the seams with innovation," Mr Buckley said.

"A key part of the event will be the signing of the Gippsland Innovation Statement by representatives of all six Gippsland local government municipalities. The signed statements will be relayed via each municipality to the State Government of Victoria at the end of the festival.

"The Gippsland Innovation Festival is well supported by the Gippsland Local Government Network and a great range of sponsors, including the National Australia Bank and Telstra Country Wide," Mr Buckley said. "I would like to recognise the contribution of AusIndustry, sponsors of the launch, and Wellington Shire, hosts for the event this year."

Mr Buckley said it is very appropriate that the launch will be held in a venue which meets a need in the community, as well as displaying innovative design – "It’s a great example of making good ideas happen," he said.

The Gippsland Innovation Festival launch will be followed in the theatre by ‘Innovations in access and inclusion - having a voice and being heard’, which will showcase a range of innovative approaches to addressing access issues faced by people with disabilities. This event will include a series of short films made by people with disabilities and a presentation on the Gippsland Auslan Interpreter Service.

The Gippsland Innovation Festival continues until 19 May.
