Nominate now for Latrobe City Council Senior Citizen of the Year 2018

Nominations are now open for Latrobe City Council’s Senior Citizen of the Year.

The search is on for Latrobe City Council’s Senior Citizen of the Year, an award that recognises the many ways in which older residents contribute to our community. Nominations can demonstrate outstanding achievements, hours of service to the community through volunteering or being a part of a service club or any other outstanding contribution.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that nominating and being nominated was a great reward.

"Every year we receive nominations for the wonderful people in our community who spend many hours helping others, who put in enormous effort to organise an event or generously donate their time to a service club or community group. There are many older residents who do these things every week without fanfare and who do it without expecting plaudits.

"But how thrilled they must be to be recognised and equally, how rewarding it is to recognise. So, if you know someone who should be nominated, take a little time to fill out the application form. Your acknowledgement of someone else’s efforts will lift your spirits as well as the nominee’s.

Cr White said last year’s winner, Mark Bermingham, was recognised for his unflagging service to the Glengarry township.

"Mark was recognised for his many years of dedication to the community of Glengarry, helping out in a number of ways. We know there are many other people, across our municipality, who quietly go about their business making our community better.

"Let’s applaud their efforts and recognise them with a nomination," Cr White concluded.

Nominations can be made online at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/senioroftheyear or by completing a form available at any service centre or library. Nominations close on Friday 31 August. The winner will be announced at a special ceremony during the Seniors Festival that runs from 7 to 14 October 2018.
