Rail Trail Friends Group Ready To Form

A Bass Coast Rail Trail friends group is being formed to assist Council in marketing and promoting the trail, developing priorities for future development and advocating for funding from State and Federal Governments.

A brave few enjoyed a walk and talk along the Bass Coast Rail Trail in Kilcunda recently, as a first step to forming the Friends of Bass Coast Rail Trail.

Council’s Arts and Leisure Coordinator, Jenny Churchill, gave a brief history of the rail trail and outlined Council’s plans for its ongoing development.

"Those who attended the informal gathering were representative of the many users of the trail, who walk, cycle and horse ride, and all showed an interest in joining the Group," said Ms Churchill.

After the walk, the Group enjoyed a BBQ at the Kilcunda foreshore and had an opportunity to look through photographs of the area’s mining and railway history.

"If you use the trail and are interested in being part of the Friends Group, a meeting of the Group will be held at Wonthaggi Town Hall on Tuesday, 9 May at 5.30pm.

"The meeting will give everyone an opportunity to have input into the role of the Friends, priorities for future development and a chance to chat with other users of the Trail," Ms Churchill informed.

For more information contact Council’s Arts and Leisure Coordinator, Jenny Churchill, on 5671 2211 or 5951 3311.
