Colourful community welcome for bikes

Bike riders participating in the Barry Sheene Memorial Bike Ride on Thursday 13 October and the Grand Prix Run from Cranbourne on 15 October were welcomed to Bass Coast by a colourful variety of banners from local community groups.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 18th October 2005 - Back to News

The banners, painted by local community groups were part of the Grand Prix Community Banner Project, organised by Council’s Economic Devleopment Project Officer, Roslyn Jenzen.

"Community groups were invited to be part of the Grand Prix event, by painting a banner indicating the group they represented and their location," explained Ms Jenzen.

"Last year we had 10 groups involved and this year 13 joined the project.

Council provided each group with a vinyl banner, paints, ropes and posts. The groups are asked to display their banner along the route that the bikes travel to the Grand Prix.

"This year, some of the banners were on display for the Barry Sheene Memorial Ride from Bairnsdale on Thursday," said Ms Jenzen.

"The remainder were on display for the Grand Prix Run from Cranbourne on the Saturday."

Ms Jenzen said the Grand Prix Community Banner Project was a terrific way to get the local community involved in the event festivities.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for local groups to gain promotion that they normally would not receive as well as welcoming the riders to our Shire.
