Moe Library and Service Centre temporarily closed
Latrobe City Council will begin limited services at the Moe Library and Service Centre following a burst water pipe caused the closure of the facility earlier this week.
Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said the library was closed on Monday following the discovery of water in the underfloor space and lift well."The electrical services are located under the floor and with water in the underfloor space it was considered to be an occupational health and safety matter, as well as a public safety issue. Our first priority is always the safety of our community and our staff," Cr O’Callaghan said.
"Staff members have been working to dry out the underfloor area and the lift well. While we had anticipated that the library would re-open this week, we have since discovered mould in some areas which suggests this matter is more complex than initially thought.
"Our team will be working over the weekend to ensure that we are able to open the library as quickly as possible. We will reassess on Monday and advise the community accordingly.
"Importantly, we will continue to honour meeting room commitments and community members will still be able to make Eftpos payments and access a ‘pop-up’ library in the Moe foyer from Friday."
