Council to lead the way with Pet Expo
Pets in the Valley to be held at the Old Gippstown on Saturday, 21 May. This to provide the community with access to information, products and advice in a fun and family-friendly environment.
Latrobe City Council, along with supporting organisations, is organising a Pets in the Valley at Old Gippstown event on Saturday 21 May from 9am to 2pm to increase awareness of responsible pet ownership.Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Michael Rossiter, said that the pet expo would provide the community with access to information, products and advice in a fun, family-friendly environment.
"We are hoping that animal owners will learn about best ways you can look after your pets. That may be by microchipping your animal at a reduced rate, by receiving advice from the vets in attendance, or by talking with our Council animal management team.
"There will also be a chance to browse the market where you might find products or services you can invest in or even have your pet’s photo portrait taken," Cr Rossiter said.
"For those of you thinking of owning your first pet or bringing an additional animal into your home, you can talk to one of the adoption or rescue services that will be at the event.
"As well as being able to access all this information, there are fun activities to watch and take part in too. There will be demonstrations from the Gippsland Dog Obedience Club and VenomWise and there will be heaps of activities for the children too," Cr Rossiter said.
"We want people to understand the importance of caring for their animals but also to enjoy the wonderful experience of pet ownership. Looking after an animal can lead to a healthier lifestyle – not just the physical exercise of, say, walking a dog – but the emotional wellbeing that a caring, non-judgemental animal relationship brings.
"Visit our pet expo and discover just how rewarding pet ownership can be. You are more than welcome to bring your animal to the event, but they must be vaccinated and kept on a leash," Cr Rossiter concluded.
The Pets in the Valley at Old Gippstown will be held on Saturday 21 May from 9am to 2pm. Entry is by gold coin donation.
