Update on Gippsland Fires

The following roads are now closed due to the Moondarra fire north of Moe:

Moe-Erica Road

Erica-Walhalla Road

Walhalla-Tyers Road is closed

Access over the Blue Rock Dam wall at Spillway road

Tanjil Bren Road at Mt Baw Baw Tourist Road

Access into the forest north of Hunters Road

Purvis Road is closed in the Stretton Road and Anderson Road area

Beck's Bridge Road is closed at Moe North Road

Police are urging sightseers to remain out of the area as smoke is making road travel hazardous.

Strong winds and high temperatures have increased fire activity on the Moondarra fire this afteroon.

State firefighters led by DSE and supported by CFA are continuing work on containment lines and asset protection in the Thallo, Moondarra and Tanjil South areas.

Communities currently under threat from the fire are Yallourn North, Tyers and Tanjil South and Moondarra, Erica and Rawson.

A spot fire ahead of the main fire is increasing in size. It is located south west of the main fire in the vicinity of Ashdowns road, Greys Road and Ortins Track, Tanjil South.

There are currently no confirmed building losses from this fire.

Another fire 11 kilometres east of Boolarra has reached 45 hectares and is being managed by CFA on behalf of DSE. There are currently 15 CFA tankers working on the fire.

The Postmans Spur fire, 11 kilometres south west of Tubbut remains at well under a hectare, but is still going.

In the Cann River fire district, the fires 17 kilometres north of Cann River are seven and five hectares and the fire at Wild Cow 19 kilometres north west of Orbost is being bombed by aircraft.

Another new fire 14 kilometres south west of Orbost on Beach road has also had aircraft deployed to it.

No private property is under threat from these other fires.
