Agriculture Leadership Program to support economic recovery and resilience in the farming sector launched by East Gippsland Shire Council
East Gippsland Shire Council will reconsider a draft Rural Land Use Strategy to support agriculture while protecting the environment. The strategy allows for dwellings if necessary for farming activities.
East Gippsland Shire Council is launching the Agriculture Leadership Program for Economic Resilience, to assist farmers and agribusinesses in driving economic recovery and building resilience. This program has been developed in response to feedback received from participants in council's Agribusiness Programs and at other community events.

Rural leadership and resilience
The program will cover important topics such as dealing with change, managing uncertainty, building resilience, fostering innovation, community development and leadership. It aims to enhance participants' skills and capacity in areas such as community leadership, preparing for natural disasters, resource management, farm continuity and resilience, and decision-making and risk management.
The program, which will span six months, comprises seven days of activities, which will see participants develop their adaptive capacity enabling them to play a pivotal role in shaping both their own futures and the economic progress of the region.
Leadership development program
The program will be led by farm management consultant Chris Mirams and futurist Dr Gary Saliba, director at Strategic Journeys. It will also include a regional tour, training sessions, and peer-to-peer learning to strengthen leadership skills and promote personal and business resilience.
